Summary :

At present, within the scope of bilateral co-operation agreement concluded in 2002 between GDDKiA and French Road Administration, except seminars, meetings and conferences, there are in Poland a couple of joint projects dealing with technology and improvement of technical state of road network (e.g. verification of pavement characteristics measuring methods, adjusting French program of road pavement structure design to Polish conditions, application of French so-called thin-layer technologies for planning and realization of road network maintenance in Poland).

Expected results :

Recognition and usage of French experience in fighting and liquidation of rutting problem on road bituminous pavements in Poland. Elaboration of conclusions in order to improve the situation in this domain in Poland. The proposed CESROUTE master thesis can contribute to further propagation and implementation on a wider scale French technologies and road network maintenance methods in Poland, and in this context to deepen bilateral co-operation between road administrations in both countries.

Methodology :

- 1. Introduction.
- 2. Presentation of background historical information on road network management methods, maintenance practices and technologies on the network of motorways/main roads in the "old" EU states.
- 3. Present situation and methods of road network management, maintenance practices and technologies in the one chosen "old" EU country on the example of France with distinction to motorways and other main state roads.
- 4. Present situation and methods of road network management, maintenance practices and technologies in the new EU member states, on the example of Poland with distinction to motorways, expressways and other main roads under the responsibility of the State Road Administration (GDDKiA).
- 5. Comparison and in-depth analysis of management and maintenance technological methods and practices for road infrastructure projects in France and in Poland.
- 6. Conclusions and practical recommendations to be used in the context of present economic and political situation in Poland regarding road network maintenance, and taking into account especially the French experience in fighting and successful liquidation of rutting problem on road main network in the country.
- 7. Closing remarks and acknowledgements.
