CEI-Bois European Business Advisory Group – new member
One new EU-level association has joined the European Business Advisory Group in October 2008 : the European Confederation of Woodworking Industries (CEI-Bois). We look foreword to a mutually beneficial cooperation.

Workshop on “The International Reference
Life Cycle Data System (ILCD) – IT implementation” 17-19 Nov 2008
The European Platform on Life Cycle Assessment (EPLCA) held two workshops on “ILCD - IT implementation” from 17th to 19th
November 2009. These face-to-face meetings with more than 40 participants representing 6 national LCA projects globally, UNEP and several leading LCA software and database developers provided a discussion and information forum to exchange experiences and provide IT information in support of the ILCD network. First international summit of PCF World Forum in Berlin, Germany on 26th -27th February 2009
The European Commission’s DG Environment presented an overview of the Commission’s position on Product Carbon Footprinting (PCF) to the European business leaders and Member State representatives. The
JRC presented an overview of related community support provided via the EPLCA, including interactions in relation to the ILCD Handbook/Data Network, as well as the European Reference Life Cycle Database (ELCD).

Participation in the 2nd Steering Committee meeting on the “GHG Protocol Initiative on Product and Supply Chain Accounting
and Reporting Standard”, on 19th -20th March 2009 in Geneva.
Cooperation with World Business Council for Sustainable Development signed The EPLCA has the overall objective to support good practice in LCA, by facilitating the development through international coordination of a series of technical guidance documents on life cycle inventory (LCI) and impact assessment (LCIA) ; hence improving the availability of qualityassured and consistent LCI and LCIA data and methods. Supporting this, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the European Commission’s JRC and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
European Platform on LCA - Upcoming
• The enhanced ELCD core database of over 300 LCI data sets of European scope will be uploaded to the EPLCA website by mid April. The data can be used free of charge.
• The advanced draft deliverables of the work towards a technical guidance on recommended LCA practice ("ILCD handbook") are expected within the next months. This work integrates the extensive input of the invited consultation of 2008 on the first draft, received from globally over 20 governmental bodies, international organisations, and research and consultancy organisations.
• A series of ILCD technical stakeholder workshops and other stakeholder meetings are planned for May/June this year (dates and tentative agenda will be provided in the next newsletter).
